My Natural Hair Journey
Hey Guys! I decided to do a blog discussing my natural hair journey. But, before I start telling you about my hair journey I will say I am a beginner when trying natural hair. Yes! I have finally given up on relaxed hair and long Brazilian hair extensions. My first step to having natural hair was doing the big chop and installing box braids. When installing my box braids I kept them in for four month to help the growth of my hair. However, my hair became brittle once I stop moisturizing my hair while wearing the box braids. When I re-installed my box braids for the second time I kept my hair moisturized while using "As I am" products which became helpful . After getting bored with wearing the box braids, I went on You Tube to research natural hairstyles and came across the havana twist. The havana twist has became one of my favorite protective hair styles for the summer. I do recommend embracing YOUR natural hair because it is easier, in expressive and fun! Please be sure to check out the photos below.

ABOUT SHANIQUE WEATHERLY
Shanique Weatherly is a fashion designer who has a bold imagination. She has a passion for color, texture and shapes. Shanique was born and raised in Buffalo, NY and moved to Brooklyn, NY where she study fashion design at Pratt Institute. However, before attending Pratt Shanique spent a year in Jacksonville FL, where she was influenced by the bright, colorful atmosphere and weather. After living in Florida, she began to use bold colors in her designs to reflect an outspoken and sexy feeling.
As a fashion designer, Shanique enjoyed working close to the body to create a fit that mimics the form of the female body. However, in her previous collection, she was challenged by her professor Melitta Baumeister to work away from the body. Shanique began to think back to her roots as a professional jazz dancer and began to think of the movements and shapes that she used when performing—circles, squares, and intricate geometric shapes that captured the expression and attitude in her performance. These shapes have influenced her work by making her garments abstract and structural. In the process of creating her collection, Shanique transfer her ideas into her sketches and garments.
For this collection, Shanique created her own category as a resort designer. She used bold shapes to reflect the brazen colors she used in her collection. Instead of designing commercial resort wear, she design runway resort wear.
While living in New York City she has interned at Naeem Khan, J Rosen Showroom, and Michael Kors to learn more about the industry and how to be become a successful designer when designing resort wear. When designing resort wear her mission is to think outside the box and allow herself to become open to creating new, sexy, and bold silhouettes for women.

THE PROCESS
" When creating my sketches, I decided to take the technique of draping that I’ve used when working in patterns and apply it to magazine paper. This direction has allowed my sketches to stand out when presenting my designs to the audience, which was my mission".

The stud heart jacket has put Weatherly in a new direction as a fashion designer. It has open doors for her in her design life. Weatherly admits the stud heart jacket was not her favorite! In fact she dislike the jacket because it was very different from what she usually creates. After doubting the jacket she was encouraged by close friends to wear the stud heart jacket on 7ave in NYC. After taking their advice and finally wearing the jacket it became one of her favorite things to wear!

3D Corset
The amount of time Weatherly invested into her 3D corset has left her spending the night in the fashion studio. The 3D corset is one of her best pieces out of her recent collection. Weatherly continues to push herself to master the idea of re- creating her own class as a fashion designer.
